Rikki’s Chapel
There is no doubting the air of peace and tranquillity that one feels on entering the Chapel. It is a feeling one gets from the moment B-P’s footprint cast in concrete at the base of an engraved Cross is seen. Some of the other features which are to be found in the chapel are:
- B-P’s Footprint was cast in concrete during the official opening of B-P Camp in 1936. It was moved from the main parade ground to its present spot along with the Cross in 1963.
- The Cross was donated by Mr ‘Tubby’ Goldman, Divisional Commissioner, Natal and unveiled by Mr E. Percy Fowle, Chief Scout South Africa, at a garden party held on the main parade ground in 1963.
- The Log Seats were made and donated to the Boy Scouts, Natal Division by Wally Short of Short and McDonald, the builders of Pioneer Hut. The same logs, planted on end, can be seen in the Main Camp Fire Circle.
- The Chapel Gateway, while retaining its same design, was totally restored as a Springbok scout project in May 2020 by Maria Sotheby.
- A dense garden of clivias was planted in October 2020 down the path and around the chapel.
